Tiltiest Performance Institute Assessment
A TPI assessment is a golf-specific physical screening created by the Titleist Performance Institute to uncover physical limitations that may influence a golfer’s swing. It provides a detailed look at mobility, stability, and balance to show how a player’s movement patterns relate to their swing mechanics. The results are then used to design a personalized training plan aimed at improving performance, reducing injury risk, and addressing pain.
What it involves
-
A 16-point movement screen:
-
A structured evaluation that analyzes key areas such as hip and shoulder mobility, torso rotation, and overall stability during movements like the overhead squat.
-
Targeted assessment of key physical attributes:
-
Tests focus on range of motion (mobility), control and strength (stability), weight transfer, and coordination or sequencing.
-
Identifying the “Body-Swing Connection”:
-
The screen highlights physical limitations and links them to common swing faults, illustrating how the body’s capabilities influence golf performance.
-
A personalized improvement plan:
-
Based on the findings, a tailored program is developed—often involving corrective exercises, mobility work, physical therapy, or swing coaching.
Why it’s beneficial
-
Enhanced performance:
-
Addressing physical restrictions can lead to a more efficient and powerful swing, improving clubhead speed, distance, and consistency.
-
Pain reduction:
-
The assessment uncovers movement patterns that may contribute to discomfort during or after play, allowing for targeted corrective strategies.
-
Injury prevention:
-
By identifying weaknesses or imbalances that could lead to injury, the program helps resolve them before they become problems.
-
Valuable for all golfers:
-
Suitable for players of any age or ability, the assessment helps anyone identify physical deficits and provides a clear path toward improvement.
